Arsenal have stolen a march on Manchester United in the race to sign Barcelona’s Chile World Cup star Alexis Sanchez, with Arsene Wenger already having met the 25-year-old winger’s agent in Brazil. Wenger is working for French TV station TF1, but took time out to meet Sanchez, who has completed 16 take ons in his three World Cup games. (Daily Express)


Liverpool and Tottenham are going to go head to head in a bid to sign Real Madrid left-back Marcelo. Twenty-six year old Marcelo is currently at the World Cup with Brazil, but both Tottenham and Liverpool are preparing £24 million moves for him. Manchester United will revive their interest in Southampton left-back Luke Shaw this week, once England fly home from the World Cup. Their move for Shaw stalled when they could not agree a fee with Southampton for the 19-year-old, but they will reignite their interest in the coming days and weeks. Liverpool have been offered first refusal on Barcelona pair Pedro and Cristian Tello, in a bid to soften the blow of making a bid for Luis Suarez. Pedro scored 15 league goals last season but only completed 90 minutes ten times in La Liga. (Daily Express)

Real Sociedad have confirmed that Carlos Vela will stay at the club rather than return to former side Arsenal. A deal has been reached that will see Vela sign a new four-year deal at the Spanish side and Arsenal waive their previous economic rights and buy-back clause to the player. Micah Richards could be moving to Liverpool this summer, having found himself third-choice right back at Manchester City. The 26-year-old right-back fits the bill of Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers’ desire for players with both Champions League and Premier League experience as the Reds return to European football.
