FORT LAUDERDALE — The soccer group headed by Brit legend David Beckham has quietly told Broward officials that their new MLS team scheduled to come to life in 2017 will not play in Broward County, sources are telling Gossip Extra.

Former Los Angeles Galaxy star Beckham has been in an out of the area to find a venue for his yet-to-be-named team, and he’s sure of only one thing: Broward’s not the place for him!

And Beckham has told Broward officials — but for some reason no one thought of telling the public.

“David is aware of the poor record of Broward when it comes to soccer,” said one source close to Beckham. “Two professional soccer teams (Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the old North American Soccer League and Major League Soccer’s Fusion) have failed and it’s hard to get a good crowd for anything in Broward, even for hockey.

“David understood that when he went to Sun Life Stadium this summer for several games. He knows that Miami-Dade County is the place.”

For the time being, Beckham is still eyeing sites in downtown Miami for the soccer-specific stadium.

But when it comes to details, his team is playing it close to the vest.

We reached out to Broward County Commissioner Stacy Ritter, a vocal proponent of Broward as Beckham’s new home, but she has yet to comment.
