WEST PALM BEACH — Fashion editor Robert Janjigian, the face of the Palm Beach Daily News, suffered an apparent stroke at the newspaper’s headquarters Thursday in West Palm Beach.
He was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition at the hospital’s intensive care unit.
While the so-called Shiny Sheet has yet to cover the incident, I’m told by staff at the hospital the 56-year-old Janjigian is undergoing MRI tests today.
One former colleague told Gossip Extra Janjigian is being kept in a medically induced coma, but the hospital staffer couldn’t confirm that.
Through his columns and reportage, Janjigian has defined Palm Beach style for many socialites on the island.
He’s been a permanent fixture on the town’s social scene and the Worth Avenue fashion world.
Privately, however, Janjigian told friends he worried about his health because of his ever-growing workload.
Yearly budget cuts ordered by the Shiny Sheet‘s Atlanta-based owners have caused the newspaper’s staff to be cut to a skeleton crew, and Janjigian is one of only a handful of writers and editors left at the dwindling newspaper.
Janjigian has also been writing food reviews as well as business articles.
